May 2013 Chicago’s Autobahn North Track Event at the Heidts Performance Car Challenge. I ran my Supercharged 3.7L V6 Mustang. There we over 70 cars participating they placed us into run groups that had similar times. My testing time was done on a semi wet track with brakes that had not been bedded. they also only used transponders the first half of the day so my recorded times were not so hot.

Throughout the day I kept improving and caught a passed two cars. I pulled in a tracked prepped 2011 Mustang and a 2006 Chrysler 300. I am sure I improved my lap time by at least 4-5 seconds by the end of the day. You can watch the video for some the excitement. At one point the wind pressure from the 120 MPH straight blew the gopro camera back and I lost the pass on the Mustang. On the flip side I was passed by two cars, but both of them must have been sandbagging during timing. They had considerably more horsepower, one however blew up on track right in front of me so be sure to check that out on the video. Overall I had a great time and I even won an Editors Choice award from Evan Smith of Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords Magazine.

This track day fun included enhanced fun parts from Nitto, Weld, Eibach, EBC, BMR, Stifflers, Barton, SPEC, Shaftmasters, Bassani, and ProCharger.

May 2013 I ran the 3.7L V6 Mustang at the Heidts Track Day Challenge. I was running a new set of EBC Mustang Brembo Orange Stuff Brake Pads and 14″ Sport Slotted and Dimpled rotors for my Brembos in front and stock caliper and 11in EBC sport rotor and Orange pads in back. It took a few more laps than I would have like to get them fully burnished, but once I did they held up very well. I had to make about 12 hard brake hits to really get some material transferred. Coming off the great success with their Blue brake pads EBC formulated their new Orange pads that are full race material. I have been running them on the street as well with no issues. I will be running again in lat June and see how they do before and after running at Road America.

The North course of the Autobahn track has three straights that you can reach 100MPH and the longest straight I hit 120MPH. This is a great test for brakes. Several cars found the limits of their brakes coming off the long straight entering turn 1. The EBC Orange brake pads held up well with no issues. Once they were bedded they lasted 5 hard laps pers session with no fade. I am extremely happy with them. I was also using Motul 600 brake fluid as well as brake cooling ducts.

I was lucky enough to be able to participate in the 2012 Hot Rod Power Tour. I drove the St Louis, to Miami, OK leg on Wednesday the 6th of June. It was a lot of fun seeing all the different cars. I was surprised at how many were not on DOT tires or were without AC. On the 700 plus mile trip I averaged 25.5 MPG. Not bad for a 500 HP car!

What could be better than all black wheels? Fords PP Black wheels are good but

There is still room for improvement. The team over at LRS developed a design that die hard wheel guys will love. The Mustang Flat Black SVE Drift Wheels are 19X9.5 in size and they look amazing. Plus they are 1 inch wider than the factory PP wheel, giving you a little more grip to hold those ponies on the road. These came wrapped in Falken 275/40/19 tires. Trust me I will put them to the test.

I put these wheels on at the same time I put on the Mustang Eibach Lowering Springs and Tokico D-Spec Shocks. The final result is a look that I absolutely love. Take a look and judge for yourself. There are a couple of pics of my older wheels for comparison.

That may be true but they underperformed to my standards. I have been accustomed to a nice pad that is suitable for autocross and road course use. Besides a nicer pad will help give you confidence on the street when we all know stopping distance can become an almost daily issue.

I put these pads on before I took the mustang around the track at Hallet. You can read more about the EBC Bluestuff brake performance at Hallet I was very impressed with their performance at the track. They held up lap after lap for the whole day. These pads have also help up great on the street. I have had very little issues with squeaking. These pads do not need to “come up to temperature” before they perform well. These bluestuff pads also work in the rain. I plan on running them all year long.

Another one of our Authors, who is a regular at the autocross has written a nice review of the EBC BlueStuff pads.

One of the Lead Instructors at Track Guys Performance Driving School put on a set of EBC blue pads and ran at Heartland Park. See the articles below.

Did you buy aftermarket Wheels?

Don’t forget to put in a new set of Tire Pressure Monitoring Sensors into your new wheels.

If you don’t put in a set of TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring Sensors) into your new wheels then your dash will alert you that there is a sensor error. This can be quite annoying to turn off every time you get in your car.

I picked up a set of Valve Mounted Sensors from LRS. These 2010-12 Mustang Tire Pressure Monitoring Sensors are sold as a set of 4, 1 kit is all you need for your new wheels on your 2010-2012 Ford Mustang. These particular TPMS sensors are not compatible with 2007-2009 Mustang.

Your Ford Mustang’s TPMS continuously monitors tire pressure
through sensors located in the tires. Because under-inflated tires are hard to detect with the eye the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, requires that all passenger cars, light trucks, and vans (Gross weight less than 10,000 pounds) be equipped with TPMS starting in model year 2007. For the 2010 Mustang, Ford went to a Schrader Valve mounted TPMS sensor that makes for much easier installation. This same sensor carries over to the 2011 & later Mustangs.

When the TPMS warning light on the instrument panel lights up it means the system has detected at least one tire with pressure below the accepted minimum psi for that vehicle. Ford vehicles use an image of a cross-section of a tire with an exclamation mark inside.

Things You Should Know About TPMS
Whether the vehicle you are working on uses Banded or Valve Mounted bolt-on or snap-in applications, there are several things you should be aware of.

Batteries … All Direct sensors (Banded or Valve Mounted) contain a small battery to power the sensor and transponder. These
batteries are designed to have an estimated life of 10 years or 150,000 miles at which point the batteries will go dead and the
entire sensor will need to be replaced. As battery voltage gets to the low limit, it may cause the TPMS control unit to generate
a diagnostic trouble code. If any tire work is performed as the vehicle nears the 10-year/150,000-mile mark, good preventive
maintenance suggests replacement of all the sensors.
ID … Additionally, each sensor has an identification code which signals its ID to the control module.
(This also tells the control module that it’s reading the right tire signal and not one from a nearby TPMS-equipped vehicle.)
Reset … The TPMS needs to keep track of which wheel is which. This means, for example, when the tires are rotated on a “split placard” vehicle – generally a heavy duty application with different front and rear tire pressures – the system must be reset to allow the control module to learn the new position of each sensor.

The reset tool instructs the sensor to send its ID code – with its unique “address” – to the control module so it can recognize the sensor and identify its location. The control module learns where each tire is by the sequence that the sensors are programmed. (Motorcraft TPMS-19)

Tire Rotation … Tire rotation requires that all tires be “re-calibrated” with the TPMS control module on vehicles with
split placards.

Mounting Tires to Wheels … Special care must be taken when removing or mounting tires on wheels with bolt-on Valve
Mounted sensors, as the sensors can be easily damaged if direct leverage is applied to the sensor. On these wheels, the tire
should be deflated and the valve pushed down into the tire before breaking the tire bead away from the wheel.
(Refer to accompanying graphics or to the vehicle shop manual.)
Aerosol Inflators with Sealant …And as pointed out earlier, tire inflator/sealants should only be used for emergencies, and
with the awareness that TPM sensors can be damaged by the use of these products. The gummy sealant will clog up the valve
and the pressure-sensing port of the sensor. The warning light will go off and the sensor will need to be replaced.

A Real Hood Pin kit is a great upgrade for anyone with an aftermarket hood that is still relying on the stock latch to hold the hood in place.

The hood latch on an aftermarket carbon fiber or fiberglass or other material hood has a high chance of coming off at some point in time. So why take the chance of it coming lose and flying open when you can install a real hood pin kit and not worry about it. Plus it will give your car that race inspired look. The stick on style hood pins can look good, in a clip on tie sort of way, but serve absolutely no functional purpose. Spend the extra $40 on the real deal and you will be glad you did.

These are CNC Machined from Billet aluminum, the top part has anodized black finish. They come in non colored versions also. The kit comes with a Delrin insert (spacer) that sits against the hood to protect it from scratching. So as with many of the parts I put on the car I contacted the guys over at Late Model Restoration and see what they had in stock. They happen to have had the UPR black hood pin kit available and ready to ship.

This Hood Pin Kit Includes:

2 – Billet Aluminum Scuff Plates
8 – Screws for Scuff Plates
2 – Flip style quick release hood pins
2 – Chromed Billet Steel Studs 4” long, ½” in Diameter, 2 3/8” Threaded
4 – ½” Nuts
2 – Adhesive backing to protect your hood surface

I have more pics and an installation on this mustang hood Pin Kit.

Are you looking for the best short throw shifter available for your late model mustang. Look no further you have found it.
When Dave Barton of Barton Industries set out to design the best late model mustang short throw shifter he knew exactly what he wanted. He also knew how to make it. Actually what your looking at is not his first design. Barton was not satisfied with his first iteration of the short throw shifter. The first shifter was only around a 20% shorter throw. This is where most of the other companies stop at. Barton however wanted to design the shortest throw distance of them all.

Dave Barton himself sent me a full setup. The mustang short throw shifter, the knob and the shifter bracket. I have been using this shifter for several months now and love it. If missing a shift is something you don’t like then this is the perfect setup to modify your mustang with. The Barton Short throw shifter is your answer to faster easier shifts. Perfect for street or strip. The difference between the Barton shifter and bracket is truly worlds apart from the stock Ford set up. It has a very solid engagement and makes your manual transmission even more enjoyable to drive. If you do no other modifications to your mustang this is the one to do.

Factory Stamped Steel Mustang Rear Lower Control arms are great for stock applications, but if you are planning to do performance upgrades, you need to upgrade your Mustang Rear Lower Control Arms as well.

Even with my GT500 Lower Control Arms I was getting wheel hop and excessive tire spin. Even after the Supercharger I have slightly less Horse Power than Ford put in a GT500 mustang. I was not impressed with the factory control arms one bit. So I picked these SVE Lower Control Arms up from Late Model Restoration. They are made in the U.S.A! The SVE billet aluminum rear lower control arms are built for the 2005-2011 Ford Mustang. Made from durable 6061-T6 aluminum, these control arms are designed to help eliminate annoying wheel hop and stabilize your rear end to get you down and around the track faster. They come with Energy Suspension urethane bushings for a life time of use. They easily bolt in place of your existing control arms.

Add some aggression to your rear bumper.

More subtle changes to keep you from looking stock! This new valance lets people know you are not just the regular off the lot Mustang.

If you are looking to add a bit of aggressive styling to the rear of your V6 Mustang then the Roush 2010-2011 Mustang Rear Valance is a great way to go. This valance wit fit a 2010 or 2011 Ford Mustang with the stock or aftermarket exhaust. It comes unpainted with a grain texture that resists chipping.

The Roush Mustang Rear Valance is made from high-strengt thermal plastic olefin, and is made in the U.S.A. The plastic is molded with high-pressure injection, the same process used by the automotive manufactures. This piece looks and feels just like the stock rear valance.

The fit was perfect and there was not any time consuming trimming or sanding. All required mounting hardware is included. You can pick this up at Late Model Restoration. Those guys really love Mustangs and its good to support vendors who support the Mustang community. This pierce can be put on in about 3 hours.See the full Roush Rear Valence install article here.
