Prestolite Performance sent me a set of 3.7L Mustang Accel super coils to test HP gain on a Forced Induction setup. A lot of people have asked if these Accel 3.7L Mustang coils work?
The Accel 3.7L coils feature an advanced bobbin technology, highly specialized silicone magnetic steel cores, along with optimized winding, resistance and turns ratios to delivery 10-15% more energy than the stock factory OEM coils. More energy equals a hotter spark that burns fuel more completely releasing all it’s potential energy translating into better fuel economy and more power that you can feel.
Sold as a set of six, Accel Super Coil On Plugs are designed as a direct performance upgrade for the 2011 to 2012 V6 Mustangs equipped with the 3.7L TiVCT V6 engine. You can pick up a set at American Muscle.
I made a base line Dyno Test and then put the coils on. They made a nice 8 RWHP gain. They also demonstrate a more efficient burn. The air fuel ratio goes up .5 from 3100 RPM to 6100 RPM. Clearly a more powerful burn.
They do make some HP on a 3.7L supercharged Mustang as well they should improve MPG. This should also hold true on an NA Mustang.

|The Accel Coils for 3.7L Mustang come from Prestolite Performance in a box of 6 units.|
|Pull your engine cover if you have one. Also your strut tower bar if you have one of those also. Start with pulling the bolt holding the coils down.|
|Then push the red tab up and push on the black tab and gently pull the coil electrical connector off.|
|Now for the Passenger side. You will need to remove the intake manifold. There are 7 bolts on the top.|
|1 bolt for the PCV valve hose.|
|Electrical connector on top at the EGR valve.|
|Use your u-shaped puller to get this wire loom harness connector on the throttle body. There is another one on the other side of the throttle body.|
|I pulled this vacuum line at this location near the firewall.|
|Then the EGR valve hose has a clip on top you pull out.|
Now you can pull the manifold off the car. and then the other 3 coils.
The cylinder firing order for the 3.7L Mustang is 1-2-3 on the passenger side and 4-5-6 on the drivers side. The firing order is 1-4-2-5-3-6.
|Now is the perfect time to clean off the intake manifold.|
|Also to keep your coil boots from sticking then you can apply a little bit of boot lubrication. Hopefully this will keep them from sticking next time you take them off.|
|Put some on and twist them once they are down.|
|Now place your new Accel coils into the motor.|
|Put the bolt in each one and tighten down.|
|Do all six and then put the connectors and lock the red tab down.|
|Now its time to put the intake manifold back on. Some people feel more comfortable putting a new rubber gasket back on.|
|Make sure you put everything back together.|
|Put the Engine cover and strut tower bar back on and your ready to go.|
